Institution Saint-Joseph de la Madeleine

At the request of Monseigneur Mazenod, the nuns of Saint Joseph of Bourg en Bresse arrived in Marseille , on April, 5 th 1835. They took charge of the " Orphanage of Cholera ".

The boarding school was built in 1855 and was ruled over by a second community of nuns of Saint Joseph.

Mere Lignori points out that when she was a teacher at the boarding school in Marseille , The two communities lived together as good neighbors. Many pupils, after leaving the boarding school became "  Dames Patronesses " at the "  Orphanage of Cholera ".

The nuns of Saint Joseph ruled over the school till 1903.

The Dames of " Sacré coeur " deputized for them till 1950. The boarding was then called Notre Dame de la Garde day school. On September, 30 th 1950, the congregation of Saint Joseph of Bourg en Bresse took over the institution again , which was ruled over by a community of nuns.

In 1971, an association following the principles of the law of 1901 was set up with a lawful member : the representative of the school.

Today, a non-religious direction under the congregation control rules over the institution of Saint Joseph.
